I'm Alex. This is my own personal (public) diary. I hope you enjoy reading it, because I sure as hell enjoy living it.

The Final Countdown: Four Weeks Out

10/23/2017

I write this as my exasperatingly slow moving flight takes me home from San José back to San Diego. Now that I think about it, this is only my fourth flight for this calendar year, which is strange to think about considering I flew 17 times in 2015, for example. Now that I think about it some more, I guess I'll be making up for that paltry flight count within the next few months, so I'll shut up now.

To be honest, it's actually four and a half weeks out, but this morning over Skype, Marius and I realized that today marks exactly one month until your favorite nomad relocates to Germany, so I figured today was as good a day as any to write this post. Plus my ears are popping like you wouldn't believe and ya girl needs a distraction. Do you know how quickly 4.5 weeks goes by? It's 1/12 of a year (some people call that a month). It's as long as it takes to make a new friend or get comfortable in a new job. It's as long as it takes you to start to find your niche in a new city. You know what it's not enough time for? Literally anything else at all. It is not enough time to plan out the next (at least) year of your life. It's not enough time to see all the people you love before you go. It's just not. But that doesn't mean I'm not going to make it happen anyway, to the very best of my abilities. My Type-A personality and I are nothing if not efficient. I spent this week more or less scheduling the time I have left in the States, which was easier than you might anticipate bc I have like no time left at all so there's not much to schedule. As it stands, I just had an incredible long weekend with Sami - which you can read about in my "Do You Know the Way to San Jose" post. This coming week I have everything from boring necessities like doctor's appointments to the fun stuff like drinks with my coworkers and Zion with my mama - we leave Thursday afternoon!! This is my second to last week of work and I'll begin training the new girl we hired on Thursday, so at the very least the week will most certainly go by quickly. I fly out to Texas to visit family ater my last day (Nov 3rd) and return home 10 days later for one last week with my family. Now do you see why it will go by so rapidly? Time flies when you're having fun and all that crap. Anyway, I'm really excited for another 4 day week, and I can't believe I get to take mom to Zion. She's been wanting to go since forever and I couldn't be more excited to share the experience with her. This past week I bought (online, so we'll see how it goes) a dress for Marius' graduation and looked into unlocked phones for my upcoming travels bc my mother will lose her damn mind if she can't contact me at all hours to talk about anything from her gym workout to her thoughts on religion, but I wouldn't change that for the world. Any recommendations are still welcome, by the way, but I'm leaning towards the Galaxy S8 because despite the price, I can buy it from a reputable source rather than a questionable one online. I don't know, we'll see. I still haven't bought my travel insurance, I think mostly because it's going to cost me a billion dollars (give or take) and affecting negative change on my rapidly depleting funds physically hurts my soul. Aside from the usual day to day, I'm hoping to get Ky to buy his damn ticket for Southeast Asia, and Marius too for that matter. WHY are men so slow? Is it a universal rule? Whatever, as long as they get there I guess it'll all be okay.

We're coming in on the.. what? Last few innings? Fourth quarter? Third period? Whatever sports-related standard of time suits your fancy is fine with me as long as you catch my drift. We're comin' in hot, people. One month stands between me and an extraordinary year, so I plan to make it count.
